Three Prayers for Jacob

Description

Have you ever wondered if God was really in control, if He was aware of what’s happening in your life, or if He even cared? Three Prayers for Jacob answers those deep theological questions with gunshots and car chases.

Have you ever been mad enough at God to call Him an idiot? Detective Jacob Burton does exactly that. He's angry at God because he is suffering through what he feels is a senseless family tragedy. Most people would hold back and not be completely honest with God about such feelings. How will God react to such raw honesty?

Jacob thinks God got something very wrong in his life. What would Jacob have done differently? What would life be like if things had gone his way? It’s too bad Jacob can never know. Or can he?

Follow Jacob in his gripping journey to discover things about himself and God as he learns a little of how God guides our lives while tracking down an elusive criminal. He does all this as he deals with life and death issues at home.

Three Prayers for Jacob is Christian Fiction containing many valuable truths. It leans toward the Science Fiction side of fiction and includes thrilling theology. This book will expand your vision for the purpose of suffering and why God allows it as you travel down Jacob's road of discovery.

Professional Reviews

Author Vance C. Kessler has crafted an insightful work that will certainly be a pleasing read for Christian readers who may or may not be struggling with the idea of suffering for themselves. In this way, Jacob is a highly relatable protagonist who asks the same questions of God that many of us might, and the moral lessons and theological discussions of the work are handled with due care, compassion, and respect. The plot itself also takes many a thrilling twist to keep the action and adventure levels going, delivering excellent storytelling, interesting side characters, and situations with some very emotive consequences. For me, one of the highlights was the wisdom embedded in Jacob’s speech and thought presentation, especially towards the story’s end. Overall, I would highly recommend Three Prayers for Jacob for Christian readers seeking a thought-provoking and enlightening read.

My favorite book this year

I absolutely loved Three Prayers for Jacob. Vance Kessler is one of my favorite authors. I found this book interesting and heartfelt from the very first page and had a hard time putting it down. Vance draws you into each character and makes you think about the things you THINK you want in life and the choices you make. I have loved all of Vance's books, but this one is my favorite! I can't wait to see what he comes out with next.

Another Great book by Kessler

The purpose of suffering can be a big challenge for many Christians. Three Prayers for Jacob is a great journey down the road of realizing how great God is even when times are tough. I could not put this book down as I always wanted to know what happened next. What I loved most was the conversations that I had with my wife about this topic and the growth we experienced from those conversations and the studies we did together. This was another great book by Kessler.

Butterfly Effect meets Job

This book tackles a tough problem that most any breathing person faces at least once in his/her life. The question of “Why did this happen to me?” In this case, the protagonist not only gets to ask the question, he is allowed to do something about it! The result? Well, you need to read the book to find out! Kessler does a great job tackling this issue, painting a picture how we don't necessarily see the bigger picture in our various situations.

Insightful and engaging.

You will thoroughly enjoy this book. This book will keep you engaged, waiting to see what happens next. If you have ever asked God why? How could you let this happen to …? If you have ever thought, “God you made a mistake this time.” This is a book that will bring insight and perspective to consider that you may not have thought of before. If you have ever thought, “I wish I could go back and do that over again,” this is definitely the book for you.

A journey to faith

Very thought provoking book. I'm sure at some point in your life you or someone you know have questioned God's actions...did He get it wrong or does He just not care. This book will take you through Jacob's struggle to fully put his faith in God. I will definitely be recommending this book to others.
